To see the Sahara from the sky was amazing. The colours, sense of continuity, west to east, the vivid blue of the Atlantic Ocean then suddenly - the first glimpses of the bobolongs, the rivers running off The Gambia river irself. It truly was stunning. And it just got better.
The hotel is roughly the old Etap, but big rooms to make a mess in. That is standard rooms. Apparently the upgrade rooms and suites are posh - the suites mainly for VIPs visiting the UN across the road.
I had my own little bit UN yesterday lunch time. I went out for lunch and spent the whole time listening to an Englishman talking VAT to an Italian lady (the restaurant owner), a Gambian and someone on unknown background!
Sobek is alive and well, adult and baby, in a pond just by the hotel. Katchikaly is the sacred crocodile pool, these are the local offspring.
The best laugh yesterday morning was the local pied crow who decided the fish head was his but the rather large hooded vulture hovering over it had different ideas. Guess who won?
