Egypt and the Levant
From time immemorial Egypt traded with the Levant, accessing valuable timber from Lebanon and precious lapis-lazuli from far-away Afghanistan. We know of skirmishes, some quite serious, from at least the Old Kingdom, to keep trade routes open and to secure Egypt's northern borders with the Levant, Egypt's 'Asia'. In the New Kingdom Egypt's attitude changed from one based on trade to one of expansion. Many of the small city-states became vassals under the suzereignty of Egypt although some remained independent. Many were hugely important in the Levant with exciting and sometimes controversial archaeology. Do join us as we explore six city-states in the Levant and their links with Egypt. A warm welcome awaits.
