The Early Years
For many people, the names of excavators are inextricably linked with sites in which they found their most famous discoveries. Tanis will be forever remembered for the wonderful royal treasure discovered by Pierre Montet. Tutankhamun will be forever linked with the names of Howard Carter and Lord Carnarvon. Dusty and often long forgotten, the early years of the Egypt Exploration Fund (now Society) offer wonderful glimpses to sites that we know well, or to aspects of sites which are best known for more spectacular discoveries. Tanis under Petrie, the Apis embalming house at Memphis, the little-known site at Balabish and the wonderful tombs at Meir are just some of the early years of EEF/EES excavation in Egypt. Do come, make new friends and share a common interest through the work of one of the world’s leading excavation Missions in Egypt.
There will be no classes on 5th or 8th June, so the course is expected to end on 26th and 29th June 2012.
