Nefertiti is a name I know well. Queen of Egypt in ancient Egypt's earlier New Kingdom she was the 'beautiful' wife of Akhenaten, a ruler who still remains an enigma even today. What I did not expect was to find the name of the queen on the other side Africa, many hundreds of miles west of Egypt. To be specific, The Gambia.
Travelling to The Gambia for the first time later this year I thought to write to The Gambian Embassy in London for information. This morning a gracious letter arrived from the Embassy complete with three small booklets. One was the print version of the on-line guide book which has some stunning photographs and good basic information. The two smaller booklets were new.
The Nerfertiti is a 'beach bar and restaurant' on Marina Beach at Bajul. It looks as beautiful as its namesake. Will I have the courage to go into Banjul on my own to find it? A little bit apprehensive but would be sad not too.
