The Old Kingdom
From early travellers to Egypt to modern-day tourists, the huge pyramids of Giza near Cairo still stand as an amazing testimony to ancient Egypt’s craftsmanship and organisation. The Old Kingdom, of which the Giza pyramids are a part, can reasonably be said to be one of the most important periods in dynastic history. The ability of the kings to harness a workforce from Memphis to Aswan led swiftly to the development of a complex administration and amazing royal tomb architecture. With the development of non-royal funeral beliefs an art form developed which lasted throughout Egyptian history. Excitingly new discoveries are still being made. Do join us as we explore together some of the fascinating insights into ancient Egypt's Old Kingdom.
