Yes, you have read correctly. Why shouldn't tourists visit a brick factory?
Well, one has to say the local brick makers did wonder if two taxis full of
Europeans had slightly got it wrong and thought a pile of bricks was an ancient
monument!

It wasn't an ordinary brick factory though, it was a small open-air local
brick making factory. One thing was for sure, kids (who appeared from nowhere as
usual) and adults thought wwe were slightly daft. We gave the pottery factory a
miss though.

All this and an over-heating engine en route back from Denderah. Situation (at least for a Study Tour) normal!
Denderah has had a spring clean, the First Hypostyle ceiling (and most of the pillars) is now amazing. We pottered for over 3 hours with lunch sat out along the foundation wall in front of the First Hypostyle.
Found some interesting holes (tomb shafts) at Nagada.

Today elections began. Little groups of people in the street outside the schools but the best bit was last night coming back into Luxor. We had just turned the corner into the 'dual carriageway' (or what passes for a dual carriageway into Luxor) when we hit a traffic jam. The road was blocked in every direction. A 52 seater coach was across the the road, its nose in the hedge its tail more or less lodged in the other hedge. We watched, a bit concerned thinking there had been accident. No. The military had been despatched to make sure there were no problems today, had missed the turning, and were firmly stuck in the hedge trying to turn round. All the Egytian drivers were trying really hard not to laugh, anybody not Egyptian was just doubled over. The looks we got as finally it got itself unstuck and on its way past us. They were not amused! Apart from that, situation normal.
Long day today on the West Bank but with a long dinner stop at Amun Hotel
close by where the drivers live. Most walked over from Medina to Queens, very
sanitized including a decent, wide path. The Ptah temple is easily visible now
but well bounded off with a brick wall. It is badly fading but is also home to
the local snake and wasp population.
Tomorrow Karnak and then a tea-time felucca sail.
Signing off as its chilly in the lobby.
