Have you ever had that feeling of deja vue? We got to the ferry at Barras to cross to Banjul with plenty of time to spare so not to be at the back of the queue. All good thinking except .... it was the wrong sort of tide!
The early morning crossing.
The early morning crossing.
The tide was low, the bit from the landing ramp that went under the ship didn't - by around a foot. The problem was the ferry was at one height, the ramp at another altogether. We waited. Two hours or so later the ferry captain decided to give it a try to bridge the gap, and hit the ramp all acros the boat. Some manouvering later and the bikes were allowed off. Then came the fun. After all, this is Africa. 20 men all giving different orders trying to manoeuvre a large lorry off the ferry in (more or less) one piece. We eventually got back to the hotel nearly 3 hours late.
The end of a long day. Watching enviously the local water bus.
