With Bempton being such a 'hit' it was hard to see how anything could be as good. I hadn't reckoned with being stupid. At least that's how I viewed it on Thursday morning with a long train journey home in front of me. It began with the weather forecast for Wednesday. It was to be by far the best of the two days I would be in Bridlington so knowing that, I spent the morning chuffing up to Sewerby Hall on the Land Train, much to Stella's disgust. She really doesn't like the way it bumps and clatters over the bricks. We didn't stay, it was too busy and the cafe too crowded, though Stella did enjoy a walk in the garden. Back to Bridlington.
Being such a lovely day, North Landing beckoned, so off we went. North Landing was heaving, both car parks full. It was too crowded to comfortably take Stella down on the beach so I sat on a seat deciding what to do next. That's when I decided to be stupid. I have wanted to go back to Thornwick Bay for some time. The cliff path now is too steep to dare try. That meant walking back down the road and across the field. Five years ago it wouldn't have been a problem. That was five years ago! I did it! Stella was a pain, dragging determindly into every tussock of grass she could find, refusing to walk past until everything was properly sniffed. Dragging an obstinate dog in the open in the heat is definitely not fun. But .... how can anyone complain when swallows skim the grass just yards from where you are standing (yet again!) waiting for your dog. And the walk? Was it worth it? Sitting in the cafe, drinking a well-earned cup of tea, looking out at a perfect blue sea, it was worth it.
