There's something magical when nature takes a hand. Walking across the car park in the fog, Stella happily pulling along sniffing, suddenly, without any warning, one of the most beautiful sights in the world. A raptor suddenly appeared just beyond what I took to be the cliff edge, hovering, talons open, seemingly having spotted its dinner.
Hovering just about 10 feet away from me, it was one of those moments money could not buy. Even in the Gambia, with raptors much easier to spot, there had been nothing as special as this moment in the grey fog of North Landing in late afternoon. Struggling with the dog lead, a stick and a camera case it was a few minutes before I stood any chance of a photograph. Slightly blurred it might be, and the raptor now further away, it is a precious reminder of the beauty and 'specialness' of nature.
A final walk down to the Harbour the next morning, the tide out, the weather still grey and damp, this beautiful little turnstone was just a perfect ending to two beautiful days in Bridlington.
Stella was so exhausted she slept most of the way back, and wasn't too pleased to be woken at Doncaster and kept sitting on a cold, windy station while we had crisps and I had a coffee!
