A small charity shop opened last week, so I've sorted out a few pictures. It is on the road between Blue Sky and Gezira Gardens, and will be open on Fridays between 12:00 and 18:00. It is in aid of the al-Beirat Centre for the Rehabilitation and Treatment of the Disabled. At the Sheherazade there have been a few changes in the garden. A large area that used to be grassed has now been concreted, giving a much more stable surface for the outdoor seating. I am not sure if I approve, but at least there are more mastabas for me to choose from - I do not like the hand-made wicker-work furniture. A neighbour has built a 2-story house (so far) in his garden which is between the Sheherazade's kitchen and bar area and its main blocks. I hope that it goes no higher. There are still views of the Nile from part of the garden. The large 5-story block shown in several pictures, at the bottom of the garden behind the tented area, belongs to (one of the owners of) Sheherazade. It will provide at least 16 rooms, and there will be a lift, but it will only be completed if business picks up. The promised bird pictures have been held back until tomorrow.

Not sure we can make the day but if the lunch is on I would be more than happy to support this. I gather its ex-pats.

The lunch is an occasional event and attracted about 60 people (so I hear). If I have no wish to spend an afternoon with that many ex-pats, but chaque-un à son gout.

Two things spring to mind - Christine has spoilt the garden area which used to be a lovely sort of semi-wilderness and secondly there's too much building re: hotels and apartments. Luxor needs to be realistic.

I am not sure how much (if any) say Christine has over the development work. There is still a large grassed area, but I expect that the gardening budget has been reduced.

I can't fault the optimism just the common sense. Your comment will be posted after it is approved.
