Early Dynastic Egypt
Early Dynastic Egypt, which includes the first two dynasties of ancient Egypt, saw massive changes in Egypt. With the advent of writing in Dynasty 0 Egypt was catapulted from pre-dynastic into dynastic or historic times. From large towns dominating different parts of Egypt, Egypt began to explore what it meant to be a centralised government with all its joys, advantages, possibilities and responsibilities. A new Egypt began to emerge which would, by the time of the New Kingdom, become a formidable power in the Near East. A new central city or Residence known as White Wall moved the capital to the apex of the Delta. Yet all was not straightforward. During the approximately 350 years of Dynasties 1 and 2, old rivalries would make the transition from several large towns each under their own ruler into one well organised and (usually) very efficient state at times a bumpy ride. Do join us as we explore together this new course: Early Dynastic Egypt: birth of a nation state. A warm welcome awaits.
