The Amarna Archives
A world power, wealth and luxury poured into New Kingdom Egypt from her vassal states and from trade. Her king was called ‘brother’ by his international colleagues. Treaties were drawn up and ratified; Egypt was respected and, during at least the early New Kingdom, feared as a major military power. But what of Egypt itself? How were her people governed? How were priests chosen? Was she conservative in her religious belief (apart from Akhenaten’s sudden ‘aberration’)? What kind of education system did Egyptian children experience? What kinds of medical expertise were available? These are just some of the questions raised by the wealth of written and archaeological material which has come down to us from New Kingdom Egypt. Do join us as we explore together aspects of life in New Kingdom Egypt.
