I wandered out through the south door of the enclosure and encountered a group of local excavaition workers taking a tea break, so I had to join them. They had not had a chance to practice their English for 2 months, due to a lack of tourists, so I was made very welcome. Of course we discussed the revolution, the local economy, the protest, etc. Their leader used to live in Old Qerna, in an area that was destroyed by government bulldozers a few years ago. He wishes that he were still there rather than being relocated to New Qerna, even though he now has facilities such as mains water.
This limestone block with fine raised relief of part of an offering scene was in the palace area. The quality is more of the time of Seti I than of Ramesses II. There were several other blocks laid out in this one room.
