The temple guardian was no-where to be seen so I headed straight for the east-side of the temple. Of course the building itself was locked, but I wanted to be on the main axis, looking to the first pylon (or at least the stone gateway). Unfortunately this temple is not aligned to sunrise on the Winter Solstice - it is about 5° off axis. I will try to calculate when sunrise will be on this alignment, but my first estimate is late January (and mid November).
But it was a clear, calm morning. There were many balloons flying, some more successfully than others. And the sunlight on the Theban hills was very attractive.
I've included some pictures of the south east corner of the temple, because it looks as though there are 4 very small windows that would illuminate the stairway to the roof. Also, on the north west end of the back wall there is a very large stone protuberance - I've no idea what that was for.
Anyway, a guardian finally appeared, and Tayeb returned from the ticket office with the necessary ticket (which they hadn't wanted to sell to him).
Returning across the desert I noticed a row of 4 square column bases - presumably part of another temple. I always leave this area with more questions than answers!
