Officially we should have only spent 10 minutes in the tomb - barely sufficient for some of us to go down and back up the stairs! There was a good handrail except for the final 6 steps and to enter some sidechambers.
The tomb is every bit as good as the books suggest. We were not allowed cameras and I think we all resisted the temptation to use our phones to take pictures, I know that I was tempted, having escaped the supervision of the inspector and guardians, but "Yield not unto temptation, for yielding is sin!" I don't deny that I had checked out the camera on my not-very-smart phone and made sure that all sound was turned off. For me there were two special parts here: to see the section of wall that some of us had translated in the last hieroglyphs class in c2003, and the wall with the 7 cows and one bull.
I left after QV66 but the others visited the 3 other tombs open in the valley today.
Afterwards Angela and I checked out the book-stall at Ramesses cafe outside Medinet Habu temple. We went on to arrange provisions for lunch tomorrow - Atar the baker in Gezira, near Amon hotel, is every bit as good as I have been told since he opened after the revolution of 2011. On to Blue Sky where we enjoyed some ornithology. Pictures later.
The other members visited the Nobles tombs of Rekhmire and Sennefer. They may have done others, but I will find out tomorrow.
We prepared ourselves for an early start tomorrow: I must leave around 0600 to collect the bread and maybe some pastries from Atars; we leave Sheraton for Hierakonpolis at 0715.
