Later I went to "The House of Sir", a new restaurant at the top of New Qurna in an area known as Zam-Zam (but nothing to do with the fish restaurant of the same name. Mohamed abd Rassul has been buying bungalows on this new estate, and has opened one as a restaurant. It has good food and drinks. There is a pond with a fountain, where he will plant blue lotus and papyrus later. Some pigeons are in a cage in one corner, and he also has chickens, ducks, rabbits and two turkeys in his back yard next door.
It was too late to take good photographs, so I will try on another visit. It was very windy, and the electricity kept shorting out, although only for a few minutes at a time. The company was good - mainly long-stay visitors - and I stayed until around midnight.
He has also opened "A Room with a Key", which h calls a museum. It tells the story of Western Thebes, focussing on the family involvements. Mainly pages printed from the Internet but also with some books and articles. I will get some pictures here on my next visit. You can find both The House of Sir and Room with a Key on Facebook.
