The space formerly occupied by the Africa restaurant near to the local mosque has been leased for 2 years for a new restaurant, "Paris". Having given them a few weeks to settle down, and now that the nights are getting warmer, I visited it last night. The chef is reputedly the best on the West Bank and has catered for several large, local weddings. The food that I had was excellent, and the prices sensible.
There was a complete misunderstanding with my order, however. I ordered the Paris Tagen with French fries but got the Paris salad with Orien Vegetables. The Bab Kanoug Salad was excellent. The Oriental Desser was the usual honey or syrup drenched semolina cake, but a much larger portion than usual. Tayeb had the Kabab Casserole which for him came on a single plate with rice and vegetables. This seems to be the usual arrangement for drivers - the same has happened elsewhere. Beer and wine were available. The soft drinks seem a little expensive, but the LE45 for a complete meal is a bargain in this area.
An English couple on another table went down the menu and corrected a lot of spellings. Spoilsports!
I am probably not going to review it on TripAdvisor just yet, as I would have to score it down on Service because of the serious misunderstanding of my order.
I didn't quite work out what was in the Paris Salad. It was very well dressed, but not the sort of dish that I would normally choose. There seemed to be something fishy in it that was not tuna, and maybe artichoke hearts. Various beans, mushrooms, onion, tomato ...
