Dinner at the Fayrouz again. The only free table was behind Otto, Salima and a German archaeologist whose name I will discover later (Jane says it was Elina Grothe of the University of Basel). They were being treated to dinner by Jane Akshar. I managed to have a very few words with them, and overheard a lot of interesting conversation that I will not repeat in the public domain.
I'll start by providing brief headings, and fill in some detail later. My outgoing mail has not been working, but my ISP gave me enough help to solve the problem, so now I can reply without resorting to this Blog or to MES. Feeling lazy, so went by car to Luxor. Student card (ISIC) office has moved again, but only across the road. They very efficiently issued the ISIC which gives about 50% off entry fees to sites, and many other benefits. Then on to the Duty Free shop behind the former ETAP. On to a local shop near Sinbads to buy some leather belts. I had broken one on the plane and was in danger of dropping my trousers until I got my baggage where I had an emergency pair of braces. The first shop did not have my size, but introduced me to another that did. I only bargained halfheatedly because these people have had no income for a month. So I overpaid slightly, but at least can now keep my trousers up again. Braces don't look good on me except under a jacket. A beer at Sinbads, £E10 including taxes. The flies were annoying so I stopped after one! This picture is to generate some jealousy. The tank outside Iberotel looks as though it is about to leave Luxor. Not a very clean exhaust!. This is the 'torched' ruling party headqurters. This was about the only damage done by angry protestors in the city. Lunch at the RRH. Talked with several old and new friends. Learned that Otto Shaden and Salima Ikram were in town, and that Otto frequently eats at Fayrouz, where I was last night.

Salima is helping with the grain measure in KV10. No idea about the german, a much older and taller lady than Salima.
