I've included the Squacco because I liked the reflection.
The phone had not been blown up by the short circuit. But it was booting or initialising and then going blank. I tried the sims and sd card in my spare phones, and it was obvious that they were o.k. It was only in the evening that I discovered what the problem was - the screen brightness had been adjusted down to about 5%. I corrected this, put the chips back in, and all is now well again. I have similar problems with having to adjust the PC brightness every morning.
To answer yesterday's comment, so far as I know Fayrouz does not have a 'locals' menu. In fact, apart from their friends and family, who come to watch television and smoke shisha, they appear to discourage most Egyptians.
Blue Sky, and other Nile-side cafes that display priced food menus, have not increased their prices, but I'm sure this will come soon. Cocacola Zero still costs Le7 per can at Blue Sky. A Stella is 20.
In the evening I had a simple meal of bread and cheese at the RRH. I always take out a selection of cheese and cold meat from the UK for Mohamed and if I am lucky he shares it with Tayeb and me. They are rather partial to Bressaeola and Pastrami. Local tomatoes and cucumbers are always available, along with bread. I can now confirm that the Desperados beer is as good as the one available in the UK. Not so gassy as Stella, and not so bulky.
