I looked at several rare books, getting ideas for future scanning. In particular I looked at their copy of Thomas, Susan Elizabeth (1966) The Royal Necropoleis at Thebes. I had been concerned at the poor scans of another copy of this work 7 years ago, but the same feint areas were present in this copy so I assume that the problems lay with the Roneo/Gestetner skins that were laboriously typed up in the first place. Only 90 copies were ever published.
I took lunch with the staff and other visitors in the garden - a very good buffet of at least 25 dishes, followed by good, Turkish coffee - and chatted with a Japanese customer of mine. Marie showed me the photograph of the Winter Solstice at Karnak that sho took - it has been widely viewed on Flickr. It is magnificently timed, although she was not aware of the bird flying overhead. I will send it out on a forum post to MES members.
The Christmas tree is the only one that I have seen in Luxor this winter.
I took a few pictures of the neatly managed gardens at Chicago House before retreating to Sindbad for a Stella.
