There is an interesting article on the house at http://www.t3wy.nl/stoppelaere-house/
And one on its restoration and future use at http://www.factumfoundation.org/pag/245/Restoration-of-Stoppelaere-House
The "event" was scheduled for 10:30 and I sneaked Tayeb round a back route so that he could drive me right up to front door. Naturally this was not approved but the security person at the house seemed to be a good friend and I don't think that any backsheesh passed hands.
Having stood around and taken a few pictures of the wonderful views, it became apparent that nothing was really organised. But a few groups were invited in (the rooms are very small, so a large group was not possible). I tagged along to the only person I actually recognised - Salima Ikrim. But then listened to several others describing parts of the house and the work. The staff made me an excellent Turkish coffee. A bit later somebody bothered me for backsheesh, but as he seemed jus to be a bystander i gave him an earful that he was being inappropriate.
I had completed my tour and was back outside, thinking of calling Tayeb, when the Minister and other dignitaries arrived at the front door accompanied by a large police escort with plenty of stars and stripes on their epaulettes. They then had their own tour, along with some more official looking press teams.
I had to walk down the hill to where Tayeb was able to meet me as he had been intercepted and warned off by the police and was scared to drive up to the house. This gave me the opportunity to photograph a raptor (eagle) that was soaring over the entrance to the Valley of the Kings. On the way down the hill I passed a large cave, presumably a tomb.
The reconstruction of the tomb of Seti I has started. In order to keep its layout, orientation and slopes it is going to be built just below the House, and then covered over. One will enter from the top and exit at the bottom.
