I found my hotel in Old Hurghada (SeaView) quite easily, once Tayib had located the Corniche. It was basic but adequate, at LE125 per night for a single en-suite half board. But there is very little to do or see in this part of the city - all the action is apparently down at the marina several miles to the south. But the hotel had a good choice of bottled beer, including Saqqara 10% at LE20, which is similar to a barley-wine (but in a 500ml bottle).
I strolled along the Corniche, visiting a number of other local hostelries. There was no hassle anywhere. I ended up at the Sheherzada restaurant/bar which has free, unprotected wi-fi, and a power point next to most tables. Only slight problem is that it faces onto the road so the sun was a bit strong and there was no sea-view. They use curtains to cut out the sun, but the traffic was a bit noisy and dirty.
Back to the hotel for the evening meal, which was quite basic (but at the price of HB I had no complaints). A bit of salad, bowl of rice, meat (stew) and vegetables, with a banana to follow. I then retreated to the bar where there was a useful power-point and Wi-Fi. When I got back to the room there was a ghecko on the balcony that would not go away, so I slept with the door closed. The room was comfy, but a bit warm, and I was too mean to ask for the air-conditioning to be turned on.
