The garden wall of Sheherazade has been decorated, but is fairly well hidden by the rubbish dumps that now occupy the reclaimed branch of the Nile. These dumps are unsightly, but possibly better than high-rise blocks that would obstruct the view from my hotel.
At the north end of Marsam lane is a new Art Gallery. Its exterior wall is decorated with typical pilgrimage scenes, including 3 tuktuks. Opposite it is a fairly new, bright Nubian Coffee shop where locals were drinking tea and smoking shisha while watching the TV.
Tutankhamun restaurant is looking rather unattractive. Its seating looks uncomfortable and it rarely has any customers. There is a shop with rather naff lighting - mushrooms and the like which are similar to ones opposite the Winter Palace. Some really plastic-looking ibises, etc.
The 3 new shops next to Blue Sky are more attractive. The corner of Blue Sky is now a mini market.
The new boat is progressing. As I expected, they have hoisted the yard, and it does not look as over-sized as I had feared. The block and tackle used looks temporary. A king sized mattress was brought ashore from, or over, this boat. It gives a better sense of scale to the boat. It would not be wide enough for 2 double cabins with a central corridor. I will wait to see the final layout.
The cruise ship next to Emely was taken away downriver by tug. Emely is now alone. I hope that she is removed son.
I took my dinner at Sunflower before heading to Nile Valley Hotel for the evening lecture.
