It certainly feels like Autumn has arrived. A beautiful blustery day, a sudden chill in the air, warm coats. Winter just around the corner. Something to grumble about before it even arrives!
The kind of winter my father knew seems now though a distant memory. I can still remember as a little girl my father reminiscing, telling me how the River Cam in Cambridge would freeze over and everyone would come out with skates and home-made sledges and how there would be an ox-roast in the middle of the river. The Cam is a beautiful, graceful river with willows and trees and grassy banks down to the water's edge. The air filled with the laughter of children, the crackle of a fire, Christmas cards and memories. A beautiful, happy, carefree memory of a time long-gone.
