There is a Syrian Expo in a large tent opposite which spoils the view. Considering the Arab League's position on trade with Syria at the moment this seemed inappropriate, but Luxor has always been different.
The 5th International Conference of Sticking was holding a performance in front og the mosque. Don't ask - I'll report again later in the week.
We visited Luxor Temple to photograph the area that has recently been conserved. The open-air block yard has been extended and gets ever more interesting.
An early evening meal at the Lotus, in the souq: Food very good, prices fair. They are currently serving about 15 covers an evening when they would normally serve about 50, so times are hard.
Then to the Mummification Museum. They heard I was coming so they have restarted the weekly lectures. Today Edwin Brock, of Ontario, Canada, spoke about his restoration of the Merenptah sarcophagi. Much engineering and very little Egyptology. I was interested, but some others seemed bored. A turnout of about 100 was very good considering the short notice (or at least lack of advance publicity). The theatre was so hot and humid that I did not don my fleece until I had returned across the river to Gezira and started blogging.
