A tour by bus of the south coast was marred by timetables that just missed their connections or buses departing early. So I got to sit in Rabat for about an hour, and at the airport for a similar time. The Egyptair flight to Cairo took off while I was waiting for a bus. By the time I reached Hagar Qim, where there are two sets of ancient temples, I was already exhausted. It would have been a long walk to the main entrance, and then another walk between the 2 sets of temples, so I skipped it today.
A quiet day today, trying to recover. The wind was near enough gale force and the sea was breaking over the promenade at Bugibba. There are no pictures today, although I do have a short video of the sea.
Today was a long day on Gozo, with the main attraction being the temples at Ǵgantija. Please click on the preceding (blue) link to see the official descriptions.
Free wifi at last. With no help from the locals I have finally managed to log on to a public wifi service in Bugabbi Bay Square, run by the municipality. It is completely unprotected, but should cover my preferred bar.
Today I explored the North West of the Island. A long walk in the wrong direction eventually left me at a bus stop.
I've located a bar/cafe near my hotel with free wifi. I'd walked past it several times thinking how naff it was - dark, uncomfy seats, English pub-style menu, expensive compared to other bars - but then a Google search for free wifi access, Bugabbi, mentioned it (in a TripAdviser comment) so here I am.
Having mis-placed the hotel’s location on Google Earth, I went the wrong way to the bus station, and explored a fairly large part of Bugibba in the process. My plan was to go to the Archaeology Museum in Valetta. I bought a 7-day bus ticket (Euro 12) and caught a 12, bendy-bus, via the north coast route. Very interesting, and rather full for most of the journey. The journey took about an hour.
Ryanair checkin was smooth. I managed to board last, via the steep front steps, onto the Boeang 737/800, so the stewardess allowed me into row 5 (normally prebooked) with an empty centre seat. There is good legroom at the front of this plane –about 3” more than usual on a budget plane – and the added advantage that the seats do not recline. In-flight service seemed expensive, with prices in Euros. Very smooth, and we landed 20 minutes early. Transfer was ok – roads are very rough.
