At the temple, the inspector said sorry, but Dr. Zahi Hawass will not allow any visitors. I reluctantly took a couple of pictures from the open gate. Then a guardian suggested that we return at 3pm. We agreed to do so on Sunday as it would be convenient for our itinerary.
Another guardian said "I take you to a hidden temple that nobody visits". Naturally I was interested, so he and his rifle climbed into the car and we set out through the back-streets.
Eventually, after parting with some backsheesh, we reached a square of land about 10 yards each way and maybe 1 yard below street level. All it was was a blockyard, but with one side of a stone pylon or doorway. The name is Bab el-Maganin. Unfortunately my camera settings were wrong so I need to return for better pictures. A block identified the pharaoh as Ptolomy XII.
We returned by the better road towards the new bridge. It was too hot today to do any more outside, but this evening I dined at the new Nile-side restaurant of the Blue Sky, where the food was good. The owner sent out for a beer for me as he has not got a license for alcohol.
