The same member of staff that sorted the bathroom has also been looking after visitors, serving drinks and generally being helpful. He would appear to have some experience in the hotel industry, being well organised in clearing plates after large lunches. Maybe he used to be on a boat, or at the Red Sea.
And the owners/managers have been seen slightly more often. The next step is if they start looking at the enterprise from the point of view of the (usually) western tourists. Actually taking an interest in all areas of the hotel. Part of the problem is that the staff is 100% male Egyptian, and they will be used to Egyptian standards. I doubt if they would notice if there were no toilet paper, towels, soap, etc., as this would not be deemed unusual.
The Ministry of Antiquities has published a new price list, and in the Islamic section I noticed a "Palace of Prince Youssef Kamal" in the Qena governorate. So I've been looking for more information. The Palace is actually on the corniche at Nag Hammadi, so about an hour's drive fron Luxor West Bank. I'm gathering more information before I arrange a visit. I will of course report back if I discover anything. But here is a picture that came up during the research.
