The only place that definitely has a license and all supporting paperwork is the Ramesseum Rest House. Their licence was transferred from the former licensee only last month. I am encouraging them to make the most of the opportunity as being the only legal bar on the West Bank, they need to act quickly to gain the little custom that will be around over the summer. Unfortunately there is no word for "quickly" in Arabic unless it is used when sentencing to death in absentia in an Egyptian court!
In the afternoon there was a great deal of cleaning and sweeping in the Sheherazade gardens. Two BBC reporters, the British Ambassador (I think, although it is hard to get a good translation from the locals here), a bigwig from Luxor Tourist industry, and a few locals discussed the problems with tourism at the mement, and the negative impact of the recent visa fiasco. There may be a very short piece on a BBC TV news program next week. It is just unusual to get any coverage in Upper Egypt so congratulations to the hotel for providing the best site for an interview or public meeting on the west Bank again.
There was also some interviews at Luxor temple, but I know nothing about that.
For what it is worth, here are a few pictures of the visitors.
