I enjoyed a Stella at Hammees, chatting to "Mr Shakespeare", the elderly felluca owner that I've known for over 10 years. He had a 355ml Coca Cola (EGP10) while my Stella was a reasonable EGP33. The "scarf lady" did not show up although I had spotted her outside the Winter Palace earlier. So I did not have to buy more cheap scarves that I don't need! Meanwhile Tayeb took the car to change some brake pads.
A trip to "Drinkies" confirmed my expectation that Desperados is still available: somebody at the RRH was telling porkies yesterday or maybe William, the dray, no longer carries it.
Kam Thai was still open so I dined there. Prices have gone up by EGP5 per dish or thereabouts, but I had a chicken satay (#3) and a Thai green beef curry (#16) for EGP99.
Then to the Duty Free, which was open from 19:00 to 23:00. No Johnny Walker Red Label, which my friends prefer. So Teachers it is this trip. Paid in EGP - they normally only quote US$ and did not want GB£ or Visa but at least the conversion rate was fair.
The Prime Minister was in town and there was an official party at Deir el-Bahri (Hatshepsut). We weren't allowed to drive up past the Collossi of Memnon so took the back road. We were just in time to join the official convoy of police and army escorting the visitors back towards the Nile and their dinner. The RRH was quite busy, mainly with locals.
All day I had problems with my mobile phone. It had not fully charged last night and I could not immediately identify the problem I ended the day with about 9% charge. Fortunately I have 2 old phones in my room so I will be able to move my Egyptian and British SIMS to them, but this will be a last resort - it is so much easier to just use my dual-Sim phone from Aldi.
The RRH was quite busy.
