By now, feeling the cold, I moved indoors. They make a good Turkish coffee here. Tayib eventually arrived just before 1900, so we moved on to the Ramesseum Rest House. It was not so exposed here as the RRH is in a hollow with a good wall and fair roof, so I sat outside. This of course meant that everyone else had to sit outside with me and complain about the cold. Such power I have, especially as I had snagged a bottle of Ouzo from the local deliveryman, William. He supplies Stella across the West Bank to bars and cafes, and usually has a few bottles of wine and spirits on his pick-up for good customers.
I asked where Samari was, so they phoned him and he quickly appeared. He had helped me on my first trip to the doctor in December, and had been going round in a broken pair of sandals stiched together with rubber bands. So I gave him a pair of size 45 (European) shoes. He was really pleased and surprised, even though he had requested them. He is a guide/guardian at Nakht, Menna and Amenhotep tombs, so the Study Tour will meet him on Tuesday. He may even turn his back while a few pictures are taken, but won't object to backsheesh! Tayib of course complained - I never take him shoes!
Anyway, having met up with many old friends I decided that it was time for dinner and an early night. The pizza at Sheherazade was up to scratch, and the cats enjoyed the crust.
