Dr Betsy M Bryan then thanked the sponsors, ARCE and Mercedes Benz, Egypt, the Mummification Museum, etc. for making it possible for this conference to be held. She apologised that only the speakers were invited to the opening dinner and received "goody bags". They, and other invited participants were also included for the other lunches and dinners, coffee breaks, and the two site visits to the Temple of Mut and Kom el-Hettan. Other guests were welcomed to the rest of the conference, which was free.
Dr Tarek Tawfik, Director General Grand egyptian Museum, "Sekhmet & the Statuary of Khafra (Chephren)" then spokeabout the differences between lions and lionesses, lions and cats, and about 2 statue groups found at the Valley Tempe of Khafra. Apparently lions have more rounded ears than cats, and lionesses' ears are more on the top of their heads wheras the male lions' ears were more to the side. Also, when viewing a triple statue group, the two side statues' eyes are looking to the outside rather than straight ahead.
